I’m taking a little break from my regular posting schedule at the moment, largely because I’m working on a longer piece of fiction which is taking up all my spare time, energy and mental capacity. I’m enjoying writing it immensely, but it’s tough going too. I hope to return to fortnightly thematic posts at the end of this month. However, I did just want to provide a brief update regarding some recent writing news…
Last month, my short story ‘Service’ was named runner-up in the Writers & Artists Short Story Competition. This was a really exciting moment for me, especially as I set out to tackle a new writing challenge and found myself in need of a bit of encouragement. It was especially heartening to read some kind words about my work from competition judge Kirsty Logan, author of one of my favourite short story collections Things We Say In The Dark, who said: “[I loved] the sense of a simmering, suppressed rage. I was drawn in by the setting, which felt unique but also like somewhere I've been. The characters are surprising and vividly drawn. I'd love to read more from this writer.”
If you’d like to read my story, you can do so on the Writers & Artists website here.
